Wednesdays 7.10pm – 7.40pm
Thursdays 8:00am – 8.30am
Tai chi chuan, often called the “moving meditation” originated in China hundreds of years ago. It is a gentle exercise developed by Taoist monks to condition the body and mind, leading to a heightened sense of well-being.
This is a beginning class where participants will learn Yang style Long Form, which has 85 movements that strengthen muscles and bones, improve circulation, balance and the functioning of internal organs. Unlike many tai chi classes in Los Angeles, our class begins with the Liangong shi ba fa, which are 18 stretching and warm-up exercises therapeutically designed to help manage stress and pain.
Our instructor, Nancy Zoss, has been practicing Tai Chi for 31 years, and studied first with Master Marshall Ho’o, who was a pioneer in bringing tai chi to Los Angeles over 50 years ago, and later, Master Shen Hai Min from China who was directed by the Yang Family to teach tai chi in the United States. Nancy has taught both Long and Short Form, 3 sword sets, 1 saber set and fan sets.
